Sugarboo & Co., a new specialty boutique every bit as sweet as it sounds, is now open in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort! They call themselves a “Dealer in Whimsy” and you’ll see why. What you will find here is a treasure trove of imprinted jewelry, handmade ceramics, paper goods and decor with inspiring sayings that make great, meaningful gifts or something special for yourself.
If you’re wondering about the word Sugarboo, it comes from the nicknames the artist/owner Rebecca Puig has for her children, Jake and Sophie. She and her husband Rick started their family business in 2005 with “the inspiration to create products that remind us of the ones we love.”
Sugarboo has many mantras about putting good things into the world. We had a chance to chat with owner and artist, Rebecca Puig, to tell us more:
Your designs are very uplifting. Tell us about your work:
I do this work because I love it. I want to be very intentional about the messages I am putting into the world. I am aware my artwork and designs are in people’s homes, which are their sanctuaries. Home is where they recharge, dream, grow and thrive. My hope is that my creations inspire people in this process.
What are you inspired by?
I draw a lot of my inspiration from children, animals and nature mostly. I feel like these are the greatest designers in the world.
You mention that Mother Nature is the best artist. Where is your favorite place in nature?
Oh, I have many. I am a big fan of the beach and mountains, and I also love to go on trails through the forest.
What has been your favorite trend?
I like any trend that honors the Earth. My favorite trend right now are metal reusable straws instead of plastic straws. We are launching our own line that will be available this summer.
What items should we keep an eye out for at the Downtown Disney location?
Our canvas planters are the newest items we have rolled out, a great way to showcase beautiful house plants. I also love the 365 gathered thoughts jar. It is a distressed glass jar that looks like an old flea market find where you can keep all your dreams, adventures, moments of gratitude and memories gathered.
What is your favorite Disney memory?
I have many favorite memories of Disney as a child, but watching my daughter’s face when meeting all the princesses is the best of all.
